Safe Schools
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
AUSD will support students in developing strong emotional intelligence. Staff and students will develop strong communication and conflict resolution skills to support safe learning environments. Staff and students will also continue to work towards having bias free schools and workplaces. Conduct surveys often to capture student’s voice.
Safety Measures
Focus on ensuring students have safe routes to and from school. Analyze data around workplace injuries and student injuries to look for trends and provide support. Staff consistency promotes safety. Recruit and retain highly skilled staff with competitive wages and benefits.
Strong School and Family Partnerships
AUSD will be a welcoming environment for all of our families. As a classroom teacher I often invited parents, grandparents and important adults to the class for building community. I look forward to collaborating with PTAs to listen to parent concerns and suggest policies or solutions.
Strong Academic Foundation
Use Data Early and Often
As a Data Teacher on Special Assignment I designed data dashboards for 14 schools and programs. The data was used to track students progress, identify areas of concern and check the to see if the strategies were working.
Build Strong Numeracy and Literacy Skills
Utilizing a strong assessment system and universal screeners students will benefit from both reading and math intervention.
Universal Design
Universal Design is when educators focus on designing instruction to maximize learning. A successful component of universal design. Universal Design can also ensures that the curriculum is reflective of the diversity of our student groups.
Center of Educational Excellence
Transparent Budgets
AUSD presently posts slide decks from budget meetings on the website in an easy to access way. I would like to be known as the most fiscally transparent district. This includes proper bidding for all contracts and making contracts available to review to residents. Thoughtfully crafted budgets result in academic gains and safer schools.
Thoughtful and Impactful Training
I have learned that staff appreciate training that can be implemented the next day. Keeping track of who has received what type of training in a data base could also help administrators better tailor training to groups.
Innovative Educational Programs
AUSD should consider opening a dual language immersion program to increase enrollment and provide options for families who are interested. AUSD can also continue to develop STEAM opportunities and dual enrollment options with community colleges with a focus on trade careers.
